January MentorVet Mentor of the Month: Chrissie Schneider, DVM, MS, DABVP

Chrissie Schneider, DVM, MS, DABVP (Equine Practice), MentorVet Mentor

Our MentorVet community is full of some amazing leaders in the veterinary profession—leaders who devote their time and energy to support the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Each month we highlight and recognize the amazing work of one of our phenomenal vet mentors.

Our January Mentor of the Month is Chrissie Schneider, DVM, MS, DABVP. Chrissie is a Senior Equine Professional Services Veterinarian for Merck Animal Health. Before transitioning into the industry world, Chrissie was an equine-exclusive practitioner for 11 years.

Chrissie was chosen as this month’s Mentor of the Month because of her dedication to meeting monthly to check in with her mentee to provide advice and feedback and her support in helping the MentorVet team adapt our program to suit the needs of equine practitioners! Chrissie has been been a huge help in making our program more inclusive to equine veterinarians!

Let’s hear from Chrissie to learn more about her experiences in the MentorVet community!

Chrissie, why did you choose to become a mentor for MentorVet?

I want to support the younger generation of veterinarians—specifically equine veterinarians—to help give them the tools to make equine practice sustainable and enjoyable for them long-term.

Please share an example of how you have helped your mentee?

I've given feedback on her cover letter draft and resume so it's up to date. I enjoy being a sounding board for my mentee and, hopefully, helping to empower her to make difficult choices that serve her.

What is one thing you have learned through your time mentoring with MentorVet?

How many resources there are available to veterinarians now! The culture and messaging within veterinary medicine is starting to change and that is really exciting.

Would you recommend volunteering as a mentor with MentorVet to other veterinarians?

Yes, I would—The resources the program gives you at the beginning and the support available from Addie (MentorVet’s founder) and the other professionals on staff give you confidence to help your mentee with whatever they may be facing.

What is your favorite self-care activity?

I love riding my horse.

Thank you, Chrissie!

We love having Chrissie as a Mentor in our veterinary mentorship program. Her expertise in equine practice and years in the industry have made her invaluable to our community. If you are interested in learning more about how to become a mentor in the program, please visit our volunteer page!
