What is MentorVet Lift?

A Veterinary Mentor Certificate Program

A robust evidence-based veterinary mentor certificate program open to any individual associated with the veterinary profession interested in becoming a better mentor, gaining peer support, and learning skills to create and evaluate intentional mentorship structures.

Here are a few illustrations of individuals who would benefit from enrolling in this program:

  • Executive director or board member of a veterinary medical association creating a mentorship program for member veterinarians

  • Practice owner wanting to offer better mentorship structures for early and mid-career veterinarians

  • Practice manager of a hospital creating mentorship structures for onboarding new veterinary graduates

  • Veterinary technician creating a new veterinary technician mentoring program for a group of 20 hospitals

  • Veterinary instructor in academia creating mentorship for veterinary students.

About MentorVet Lift

This is a year-long mentor certificate program with an estimated time commitment of five to seven hours per month.

Online Curriculum. The self-paced, interactive modules take around 4-5 hours per month and cover a wide variety of professional skills topics to give you the education you need to support others. In addition, a toolkit of mentoring resources are provided within the curriculum. During the program you will learn about topics such as:

  • Sustainable Career Practices

  • Emotional Intelligence in Mentorship

  • Communication & Providing Feedback

  • Conflict Management

  • Positive Leadership

  • Psychological Safety

  • Wellbeing & Emotional Support

  • Mentoring Clinical or Technical Skills

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Creating and Evaluating Mentorship Programming

  • Adult Learning

Peer Support & Application Based Learning. Gain peer support from fellow veterinary leaders. Participants meet once a month virtually for 1 to 2 hours in facilitated small peer groups to discuss program material and how it can be applied to their work.

Capstone Project. Participants complete a capstone project to apply the mentoring practices that they are learning to develop their own mentoring structures within their organizations, hospitals, or communities.

The content of the MentorVet Lift program is nothing short of exemplary. It offers practical, actionable information that is directly applicable to our daily practices and will aid the redesign of our mentorship program. The modules are rich with insights and strategies that help veterinary professionals and affiliates enhance their interpersonal skills, improve communication, and manage the unique challenges of our profession with confidence.
